actual size reciprocity 1999 |
"Actual Size - Reciprocity" was recorded at Big Sound Studio, Westbrook, ME during the heavy snows of January 1999. The line-up consisted of guitarist/composer Justin S. Walton, vocalist and percussionist Jason Rayne, drummer Torin Sjogren, guitarist John Farias (now in Coby's band, Tractor Trailer, by the way), and bassist Matty Frye. This adventurous amalgam of rock, funk, jazz and prog picks up where "Brinkman" left off, accurately representing the music of Actual Size circa '96-'99.
RECIPROCITY stands as a work unto itself, a sonic marvel, weaving tapestries of jazz harmony and intricate melodic counterpoint with unusual rhythms and piercing guitar. The recording, engineered by Joe Brien and Jon Wyman, is a timeless gem of analog warmth, layered vocals and earth moving low-end.
...an enviable roster of well constructed yet jam-worthy songs... you can listen to Reciprocity without once punching forward to the next tune.
"...the groove is not lost to their overabundant chops. Jazz chops, that is... Dance if you must, but listen and appreciate as well."
"A terrific job at finding the balance between being an 'art' band and a 'commerce' band."
"Listen to Walton and Farias on 'Golden Reyes'... In five and a half minutes the duo works in both delicate harmonic interplay and chugging riff mode. You can listen to RECIPROCITY without once punching forward to the next tune. Beware the hidden tracks..."
